Gotland sheep is a native landrace and the most common breed in the country. The main goal is to develop the unique qualities of the pelts. The population consists of about 16 000 ewes and 1 000 rams. A few flocks can be found in Norway and Denmark and also in the UK. In the US and New Zealand there is an increasing interest in the breed but then mainly for wool production.
